The Lagos state Police Command has launched a manhunt for a yet-to-be-recognized driver, who allegedly killed a tricycle rider, Bassey Aniete, in the Shitta vicinity of Surulere.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the unidentified driver, accused the 26-year-old Aniete of bashing his automobile, which led to an argument among them.
It became gathered that the Man took a wheel spanner from his car and allegedly hit Aniete repeatedlyon his forehead with it.
A tricycle operator within the area, who introduced himself as Wisdom, told our correspondent on Monday that Aniete was rushed to a close-by clinic when blood started gushing out of his forehead.
Wisdom said, “Aniete picked a passenger from Lawanson to Shitta and had a controversy with a man, who alleged bashed his vehicle. The person alighted from his car and commenced argument with Aniete and along the road, he dashed into his car and brought out a wheel spanner and used it to hit Aniete on his forehead until blood started gushing out.
“Aniete become rushed to a nearby health center, where he died. People within the neighbourhood allowed the Man to escaped from the scene.”
When contacted, the state Police Public relations Officer, Bala Elkana, said homicide detectives from the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department were on the trail of the fleeing driver.
“The Man, who beat the tricycle rider with a spanner, absconded however we’re investigating the matter. “The tricycle rider couldn’t make it to the hospital before he died. Our homicide department on the SCIID is on the matter and we are at the trail of the driver of the car.”
